FOLLOWING THE MONEY

Couldn't get to sleep last night, so I decided to read a post Andrea insisted I must read. It's a long piece and I thought just maybe it would help me get to sleep. No such luck. In fact, sleep might be out of the question this evening.

The post was written by Baron Bodissey at the Gates of Vienna. The piece begins with a little history of himself as a 7 year old collecting coins. Then Bodissey gives us a very interesting history of our currency. He covers the changes our coinage and paper money have gone through over the years, and why. The switch from the gold standard to the silver standard to the "no standard" of today. And he also touches on the institutions that handle and control the flow of money. Those are just a few of the topics he covers. It's all very interesting as well as educational, and at this point I'm sure I will finish the piece and hit the sack.

But then Bodissey's piece really comes to life, roaring at you from the page. He's now talking about the current economic crisis we find ourselves in. And, why not? It's the history of money. As Bodissey puts it: "We are, in a word, screwed." We are...and then some.

Baron Bodissey's CHUMP CHANGE. Sleep well.
