CALLING ALL PATRIOTS
Buzz Patterson contacted Greyhawk last night asking for help. Apparently, Fran O'Brien's Steak House in Washington, D. C., has been told that they are to shut down operations and be out of the location by the end of April. That's a little over two weeks from now.
If you're not familiar with Fran O'Brien's, let me fill you in a bit. First, if we gave Medals of Honor for troop support beyond the call of duty, the owners of this restaurant would certainly get one, or two.
For the last 2 1/2 years, they have opened their doors to our wounded from Walter Reed and Bethesda each Friday night. Not only do the servicemen and women get treated to dinner and drinks, they are able to bring their families, too. Fran O'Brien's picks up the whole tab. One of the owners, Hal, came up with the idea as a way to give back to those wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. The place is packed each Friday night.
Now, the reason for Fran's being shut down is not clear, and the owner of the property, Hilton Corporation, won't say. But this snippet from an email posted at Mudville sheds some light on the matter. Prepare to be pissed off after you read it:
"Well I received this message (below) from Jack Cunningham, and I couldn't believe it. I was last in Hal's on St. Patrick's Day, and Hal didn't mention his difficulties to me then. I just called Hal and he confirmed for me this report is TRUE. Hilton has terminated his lease and the restaurant has been ordered closed on April 31 (just over TWO WEEKS from now). Apparently Hal's support of our wounded veterans is playing a MAJOR part in Hilton's decision to shut him down. Part of it is that Hilton has refused to put in wheelchair access to the restaurant and their concern over liability if one of the amputees should be injured in the restaurant."
You simply have to read the whole post. Op-For is calling out for support, too. Jack at Irish Pennants makes his feelings clear. Pat at Brainster is on the job. Also, read the comments at Op-For. This is beginning to show up all over the internet and soon I'm sure it will be on outlets like Hannity and Colmes. The MSM won't find this story worthy of their attention.
