Back in the days when the "studio system" ran Hollywood, the studios generated some great product. Specifically, tough guys. The type of leading man who commanded attention whenever he entered a scene is rarely found in the current crop of films produced today. Those days are long gone, as well as good film product. Are the two connected? I think so.

Kimberley Strassel, in a Wall Street journal piece, laments the lack of tough guys in today's films. But, she did find one who was worthy of a nomination. Read it here.
