REMEMBERING IWO JIMA: STARS AND STRIPES RAISED 64 YEARS AGO

**Welcome WorldNetDaily Readers**

The battle of Iwo Jima began on February 19, 1945, and lasted until March 26, 1945. Officially, the invasion was known as Operation Detachment, and it would prove to be the bloodiest battle in Marine Corps history, with 6,825 Americans killed and thousands more wounded.

On February 23, 1945, 64 years ago today, American forces made it to the top of Mount Suribachi for the raising of the American flag. Joe Rosenthal was on hand with his camera to capture the most famous of WWII images. 3 of the 6 flag raisers were killed before the island was finally secured, but their images have lived on for more than 6 decades and will continue to do so for many more.

The men who went ashore at Iwo Jima were the finest America had to offer. Their dedication, bravery and willingness to lay down their lives in service to their Nation should never be forgotten. Never.

Father Time is claiming this generation at a rapid pace. Soon, all living witnesses to this event will be gone from this earth, but they'll live on in the pages of history. As Americans, it is our duty and responsibility to forever honor these brave souls by telling the story of their heroics at Iwo Jima.

Today, as you go about your routine, take a moment to reflect back to February-March 1945. Honor all who fought and died, and be glad that such men lived.

The BBC reports.

FOLLOWING THE MONEY

Couldn't get to sleep last night, so I decided to read a post Andrea insisted I must read. It's a long piece and I thought just maybe it would help me get to sleep. No such luck. In fact, sleep might be out of the question this evening.

The post was written by Baron Bodissey at the Gates of Vienna. The piece begins with a little history of himself as a 7 year old collecting coins. Then Bodissey gives us a very interesting history of our currency. He covers the changes our coinage and paper money have gone through over the years, and why. The switch from the gold standard to the silver standard to the "no standard" of today. And he also touches on the institutions that handle and control the flow of money. Those are just a few of the topics he covers. It's all very interesting as well as educational, and at this point I'm sure I will finish the piece and hit the sack.

But then Bodissey's piece really comes to life, roaring at you from the page. He's now talking about the current economic crisis we find ourselves in. And, why not? It's the history of money. As Bodissey puts it: "We are, in a word, screwed." We are...and then some.

Baron Bodissey's CHUMP CHANGE. Sleep well.

MONKEY CARTOONS AND TRASHY WHITE WOMEN

Thursday night I stopped over at The Black Conservative radio program. Very good show. The monkey cartoon was one of his topics. During the show, BC played an audio clip of Pastor Manning, and that clip got me wondering if Manning had anything new posted. He did. Andrea has a very funny screen capture of our Long-Legged Mack Daddy-in-Chief at Radio Patriot. And btw, The New York Post has apologized(to some)for the cartoon, but Sharpton wants more.

DON'T LOOK NOW, BUT KIM PRIESTAP IS HAVING A "PRESIDENT'S DAY GIVEAWAY" AT WIZBANG BLOG

Kim Priestap over at Wizbang is having a PRESIDENT'S DAY GIVEAWAY! The occasion is to commemorate Obama's signing of the Porkulus Bill in Denver. After all, someone should get something out of it, even if it's only a lousy t-shirt.

According to Kim, the rules are simple:

"Just leave a comment with your favorite quote from your favorite conservative/free market/liberty-loving thinker and I will pick my favorite. Those quotes that are especially pertinent to current events are encouraged but not necessary. If two or more people pick the same quote I will choose the one who suggested it first. You have until Friday, February 20th at 5:00pm. The winner will be announced at 8:00pm."

I had no problem finding a pertinent quote, I just went to the man himself--General George S. Patton, Jr.:

"Any politician should be put in jail who votes for an appropriation bill and fails to vote the tax to pay for it."

Large or XL. Thanks, Kim.

TENNESSEE LAWMAKERS SEEK PROOF OF OBAMA'S CITIZENSHIP, SIGN-ON TO FUTURE LAWSUIT

THIS JUST IN:

The Obama birth certificate issue has just reached another milestone. Pressure is mounting:

"Several Tennessee lawmakers have signed onto a legal action intended to force President Barack Obama to turn over his birth certificate and other documents to prove his citizenship, an effort already rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court in another case.

Tennessee Reps. Eric Swafford, Stacey Campfield, Glen Casada and Frank Nicely have all agreed to be plaintiffs in future legal action from a Russian immigrant in California who has challenged whether Obama meets constitutional criteria to be president."

Yes, you read that correctly. Bloggers are no longer the only ones trying to get to the bottom of this story. Now it's elected officials from the Tennessee legislature.

THE ANDREA SHEA-KING SHOW will be interviewing one of the lawmakers tonight. A second lawmaker is trying to juggle his schedule so he can be on as well. The show is still developing and we hope to have both lawmakers on, plus the attorney who's bringing the suit. Andrea has more at her blog.

MONDAY'S SHOW BEGINS AT 9PM ET.

"OBAMA'S REVENGE"

It's good to remember that we have yet to see Obama's birth certificate, know the hospital where he was born, or the doctor's name who attended his birth. Yes, it's good to remember these things. It's also of use to look back on the Obama Odyssey--from an abandoned childhood to the White House, and everything in between. Joan Swirsky gives us all the details:

"Once upon a time, a white teenager from Kansas got pregnant by her black Kenyan boyfriend, Barack Obama Sr., or was it her husband? Whatever. (I say whatever because we’ve never seen either marriage or divorce certificates). Some say the couple was in Kenya visiting relatives when the birth of their son, Barack Obama Jr., occurred. No matter. (I say no matter because we’ve never seen an authentic birth certificate). By the time the baby was two years old his father abandoned him for his other wife and child in Kenya."--Great reading.

FORMER NASA MOONWALKER SAYS "CLIMATE CHANGE" BEING USED AS POLITICAL TOOL

The global "climate change" freaks must go nuts when a highly decorated and educated man, trained by the U.S. Govt, comes out and says "climate change" is not caused by man's activities.

Harrison Schmitt, a man who was on board Apollo 17, walked on the moon and returned safely, had this to say about the "climate change" theory after resigning from The Planetary Society:

Schmitt resigned after the group blamed global warming on human activity. In his resignation letter, the 74-year-old geologist argued that the "global warming scare is being used as a political tool to increase government control over American lives, incomes and decision making."--continue reading.

Not that it adds to Schmitt's credibility, I witnessed Apollo 17 leave the launch pad in December 1972. Having said that, I agree with his views on the subject, completely. And I agree with George Carlin's views as well--Language warning:

"ELECTRONIC RUN" ON U.S. BANKING SYSTEM PRIOR TO PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

Many of us thought it suspicious when our economy went into crisis mode just prior to the election. The timing of it all was simply too convenient, especially for the dems and Obama. Pam Geller at Atlas Shrugs is posting about an "electronic run" on our banking system that sparked the financial meltdown prior to the Nov election. From Atlas:

"On Thursday Sept 15, 2008 at roughly 11 AM The Federal Reserve noticed a tremendous draw down of money market accounts in the USA to the tune of $550 Billion dollars in a matter of an hour or two. Money was being removed electronically."--Continue reading.
