WHERE'S TODAY'S TEDDY ROOSEVELT?

Lou Dobbs has a lot to say about immigration these days. He reminds us of Teddy Roosevelt's words:

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...

There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...

We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Nothing needs to be added...T.R. said all that needs to be said.

DEADLOCKED

Former Governor George Ryan's trial is fast becoming the modern day version of "12 Angry Men." In fact, today, they'd have to call the movie, "12 Very Pissed-Off People."

Since the jury departed the courtroom to deliberate the case, the judge has had to remove two jurors for falsifying information on the juror questionnaire. And, amazingly, the judge has decided to allow the jury to continue, replacing the two jurors with alternates.

The stakes are huge for both sides, but especially for Ryan. It's trench warfare, to say the least.

Today, the jury sent the judge a note asking for a list of all "court holidays" for the month of April. It doesn't look like they're anticipating a decision in the near future.

The trial is being held in Illinois, so Marathon Pundit always has the latest at his site. Read today's post here.

THE ENEMY WITHIN

This once great American paper--the paper of record--has either forgot how to do its job, or it's a tool for the democratic left in this country.

There are many examples of this, however, of late I've been following a few stories to see where they go.

**WMDs moved to Syria, according to Iraqi General.
**Bob Kerry comments on docs connecting Saddam and al Qaida.
**Gov. Steele's credit report stolen by Schumer staffer. Pleads guilty.

All three of these stories have one thing in common: The NYT isn't reporting on them. Why? You tell me.

When an Iraqi General makes a statement like that, you would think the Times would do some follow-up on it. Not happening.

When Bob Kerry, a 9-11 commissioner, comments on a possible connection between Saddam and al Qaida, you would think the Times would have a reporter asking him questions. Not happening. Ace of Spades had a good round-up of what we now know.

When a credit report is stolen by a Schumer staffer, a governor's credit report, well, a child of five could extrapolate from there and land a blockbuster story with little effort. The story writes itself. This story is in the Times' "no-fly" zone, to be sure. Betsy's Page noticed it, too.

And the grand-daddy of them all: John Kerry and his military records. Yes, he released a portion of them but not the ones that would do him political damage. The MSM is giving him a pass on this one--so are bloggers. This story is so easy to rip wide open; no one seems to think it's worth the time or trouble. Too bad.

None of these stories are of importance, according to the reporting patterns of the NYT. However, they did find the time and front-page space, today, to report on a memo from a Bush-Blair meeting. The story leads the reader to think Bush was planning to invade Iraq no matter what; he was on a path to war. Aaron at LLP comments on this yawner.

The enemy has been identified, yet we do nothing.

BREAKING NEWS FROM ILLINOIS TRIAL--updated

LATEST UPDATE: THE TRIAL IS FALLING APART.
John Ruberry of Marathon Pundit is reporting breaking news regarding the trial of Gov. George Ryan.

One of the jurors forgot to include certain info from his past during jury selection. Hey, it happens.

Like other current, high-profile trials, this one is having its share of problems, too. The feds won't like this, and the juror will like it even less. Hope he has a toothbrush with him next time he appears before the judge.

UPDATE: John has an update about the juror's past run-ins with the law. This guy's in deep.

PLACERVILLE BOMBER

This sleepy little town in the northern California foothills has been rocked by the news that one of its former residents, who still has family in the area, has been arrested in Bolivia for killing two people after setting off bombs in two hotels. From the Sacramento Bee:

LA PAZ, Bolivia - Bolivian police were puzzling Thursday over the possible motives of a former Placerville resident accused of killing two people and wounding at least seven by setting off bombs in Bolivian hotels. He described himself as a Saudi Arabian lawyer, a pagan reverend, even a vampire, having adopted the name of the main character in Anne Rice’s dark novels.

Triston Jay Amero, 24, ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the El Dorado Union High School District Board in 2002. Amero, who listed his occupation with the El Dorado County Elections office as a "Clergyman/process server," lost during the June 2002 election, having only garnered 5.56 percent of the vote, according to Bee archives.

The death toll and damage:

The bombings killed a Bolivian man and woman and severely damaged two low budget hotels frequented by foreign tourists in La Paz’s historic city center. A U.S. citizen, identified as Jessica Wilson, was treated and released from a hospital, and the other injured people are Bolivian, police said.

Bolivia's President comments:

President Evo Morales vented his anger shortly after the bombings, denouncing the crimes as an attack on Bolivia’s democracy.
"This American was putting bombs in hotels," Morales said. "The U.S. government fights terrorism, and they send us terrorists."

The State Dept contacts mother in Placerville:

The State Department called his mother, Dawna Scheda, in Placerville, on Wednesday night to inform her about the arrest. Scheda said she has not spoken with her son and does not know where he is being held, and declined to say more before hiring a lawyer.

The Lodi terror group, and subsequent trial, wasn't that big a deal for Sacramento. After all, we had Patty Hearst and the SLA blow through town years ago and rob a bank and kill a guard. But a bomber from Placerville is odd--unsettling. It's making people think about their safety, even in Placerville. I live 20 minutes from downtown Placerville. I'm thinking about it.

I don't know the answer, but here's the rest of the Sac Bee article. (reg req)

SHE MADE A DIFFERENCE--DID YOU?

Say what you want, the gal is good. And it's folks like her that helped put George W. Bush in office in 2004. She doesn't make a big deal about it, but it's true. Few of us can make the same claim; I know I can't.

The last election was close, and if not for the efforts of Kitty, and many others like her (Pat), the outcome may have been quite different. It pains me to even consider such a thing.

The upcoming election doesn't seem to be that big a deal since it's a mid-term affair, but let me remind you that its importance is beyond that of the 2004 election. The House and Senate are up for grabs, and if we lose one of them, even a seat, things will change, and not for the good.

So, I say get involved in your local elections, educate yourselves, send some emails, pick up the phone, and by all means, VOTE. If you follow the lead of Chris at Lucky Dawg News, Blogs For Heather, you can't go wrong.

I know many of us are busy with the things that life thrusts upon us, but this is bigger than that. Take the time to make a difference in the future of your country, and the future of your children. Let's leave them something worth fighting for.

This upcoming election, be like Kitty.

The democrats are organizing now--what are you doing?

I'LL WAIT RIGHT HERE

If it seems like I'm just sitting here doing nothing, well, you're somewhat correct.

Actually, I'm waiting on comments from the NAACP, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton, and possibly the great leader of the Nation of Islam, Louis Farrahkan, regarding the firing of the St. Louis radio host after he leveled a racial slur against Condi Rice.

Since justice has been served for attacking one of their own, I know they'll want to have every opportunity to comment on the situation. When they do, I will forward said comments to you.

I have nothing but time. I will wait.

LODI JUROR REMOVED FROM PANEL

**Welcome Marathon Pundit and Michelle Malkin Readers**

Andrea Clabaugh was on the jury hearing the case against Hamid Hayat for 6 weeks, but today she was excused from her duties.

Clabaugh, 2 weeks ago, recalled that she once dated a local sheriff and brought it to the attention of the judge. He thought it over, then decided she had to go.

But the big news isn't her being removed from the jury, it's what she had to say about the case. From the Sacramento Bee:

"Beyond a reasonable doubt hasn't been proven at this point," Clabaugh, 39, said in a hallway interview with reporters.

On Hayat's confession:

"I felt like he was being badgered" by FBI agents, Clabaugh said of the confession. "I felt like he was giving them information because they refused to believe he didn't know anything. It seemed like he was fed names by the agents. It didn't seem like Hamid actually volunteered anything."

The FBI's informant testimony:

Regarding the conversations with Khan, she said, "I got a picture of a young kid who wanted to impress an older man, but it doesn't mean those were things he would actually follow through on."

Her parting comment:

"As of this moment, the government has not proven its case to me," said Clabaugh, an account manager for a Sacramento structural engineering firm.

As the case nears its end, this can't be viewed as good news. There will be more on this case in the days to come, but for now, you can read today's article here. (reg req)

DOWN, DOWN, DOWN THE HATCH

When she said she wasn't able to do political blogging anymore because of her other writing pursuits, I knew there was something wrong. Something very wrong.

For someone who made a difference in our last presidential election through her research and writing, to just drop out of sight, politically, made no sense to me. And now it's clear what's happening.

She's entering blogging's "The Lost Weekend."

Sad as it is, it can happen to anyone, especially those who have a God-given talent for stringing words together. These are creative people, driven people, and that creativity and drive places certain pressures, sometimes overwhelming pressures, on them to produce even greater works in an effort to overshadow past accomplishments.

These pressures, if not managed, will break even the strongest among us. We've seen it happen time and again. And no intervention can throttle the desire for personal destruction once it becomes progressive.

Yes, it is sad. She's back on the booze.

YET ANOTHER EXPERT SPEAKS OUT

Charlie Sheen is the latest high profile entertainer to jump on the bash Bush bandwagon. Otherwise known as "The BBB."

Sheen had this to say recently about some aspects of 9-11 that seemed suspicious to him:

"There was a feeling, it just didn't look any commercial jetliner I've flown on any time in my life and then when the buildings came down later on that day I said to my brother 'call me insane, but did it sorta look like those buildings came down in a controlled demolition'?"

Controlled demolition? Give me a break! And he added this:

"Sheen questioned the plausibility of a fireballs traveling 1100 feet down an elevator shaft and causing damage to the lobbies of the towers as seen in video footage, especially when contrasted with eyewitness accounts of bombs and explosions in the basement levels of the buildings."

He is, after all, Martin's son. He went on about Bush:

"Sheen then questioned President Bush's actions on 9/11 and his location at the Booker Elementary School in Florida. Once Andy Card had whispered to Bush that America was under attack why didn't the secret service immediately whisk Bush away to a secret location?"

And:

"By remaining at a location where it was publicly known the President would be before 9/11, he was not only putting his own life in danger, but the lives of hundreds of schoolchildren. That is unless the government knew for sure what the targets were beforehand and that President Bush wasn't one of them."

Obviously he's an expert in Secret Service procedures, too:

"It seems to me that upon the revelation of that news that the secret service would grab the President as if he was on fire and remove him from that room," said Sheen.

Dallas revisited:

Sheen said that "September 11 wasn't the Zapruder film, it was the Zapruder film festival," and that the inquiry had to be, "headed, if this is possible, by some neutral investigative committee. What if we used retired political foreign nationals? What if we used experts that don't have any ties whatsoever to this administration?"

Let's do it for the "families" :

"It is up to us to reveal the truth. It is up to us because we owe it to the families, we owe it to the victims. We owe it to everybody's life who was drastically altered, horrifically that day and forever. We owe it to them to uncover what happened."

Did Babs have all these numbskulls over to the Malibu compound to plan out their mid-term election strategy? I think there's a good chance that's just what happened.

First we have Sarandon announcing her plan to portray Sheehan in a movie; then we have Santana attacking Bush; then the brain pilot Charlie Sheen spouting his expertise regarding building demolitions; and, finally, Babs is going back on tour just in time for the next election cycle. Wow! This is going to get good--good and ugly, that is.

"...IT WAS PEOPLE JUMPING!!"

Though it was almost 5 years ago, people are still making videos of that day. Whether it's the planes hitting the buildings, the falling man, or the total collapse of both towers, it's important to view these events, again, to remind us why we're fighting today.

Will we pass the test?

FANDANGO?

Via The Drudge Report: It appears the movie industry has latched on to a solution to fill those empty theaters.

Susan Sarandon will be starring in a new movie about Cindy Sheehan, and she'll be playing the part of Cindy. Who knew?

I'm sure America will be busting the doors down at local theaters to see this "hate Bush"--"hate America" themed movie.

And, maybe, just maybe, if we're all good, little socialists, "Fonda Cong" will do a cameo.

Read the article here-- WARNING: it's rather sickening.

TREASON TRUMPS ALL

A couple posts down I mentioned how the Georgia State Senate attempted to pass a resolution honoring "Hanoi Jane" "Baghdad Jane" "Fonda Cong" (chose one) for her "good works" in the Atlanta area, but later had to drop the whole thing after it was challenged by Sen. John Douglas.

The latest NewsMax article explains how the resolution was quietly slipped into a stack of legislation, but caught the attention of Douglas at the last minute. The article details what happened from there and why Douglas stood up and opposed the resolution.

I think the last Douglas statement in the article sums up it the best:

"I've disliked this woman since I was in high school when this was going on and I've waited a long time to have my say and now it's finally happened," Douglas told NewsMax.

Sen. Douglas is one great American Patriot. I emailed him and told him so; I hope you take the time to do so, as well. Friend of this blog, Chris, at Lucky Dawg News, has not only blogged about "Fonda Cong," he's been on the street protesting her when she arrived in his town for a book signing. Have a look here.

BIN LADEN DEAD?

Curt Weldon seems to think--or know--that Bin Laden is dead. I have no idea if it's true, but I hope it is. I never thought Bin Laden was running from cave to cave in Afghanistan or Pakistan; Iran, in my mind, is the only real, safe haven on earth for a terrorist of his kind to cool his heels. If, by chance, he's still with us, Iran's where you'll find him. Maybe OBL will do a new video soon and prove Weldon wrong.

Read the Weldon article here.

"HANOI JANE" RECONSIDERED

"Hanoi Jane" Fonda was about to receive an award for her "good works" in the Atlanta area, but before the the Georgia State Senate could get the resolution passed, it ran into some opposition and was removed from consideration. As it should be.

Apparently, there're still some folks out there who remember all the "bad works" she did against our Nation and all the servicemen and women during the Viet Nam war.

Sen. John Douglas had this to say:

"I can think of no living American who is less worthy of this honor," Douglas, chairman of the chamber's Veterans and Military Affairs committee, said Thursday. "She is as guilty of treason as Benedict Arnold and Tokyo Rose."

I couldn't agree with Sen. Douglas more. He's a great American. If you want to thank Sen. Douglas for his efforts, send him an email here.

LODI TENSIONS RISING

Ever since an FBI informant testified in a Sacramento courtroom that al-Qaida's #2 man lived in Lodi back in the late 1990s, many people, including experts, are beginning to say that it isn't very likely. Muslims in the Lodi community are voicing their opinions, too; they're not very happy with the courtroom revelation and its affect on them.

From the LA Times:

"But terrorism experts and even federal officials expressed serious doubts Tuesday about Naseem Khan's testimony, saying there is little aside from his statements to suggest that Egyptian terrorist Ayman Zawahiri spent time in the sleepy Central Valley farming community."

The RAND Corp has a comment, too:

"This is pretty far-fetched," said Rand Corp. terrorism specialist Brian Jenkins.

CAIR's Sacramento office had something to add:

"Basim Elkarra, Sacramento director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said that none of the Lodi residents his group represents was asked by the FBI about Zawahiri's alleged attendance at the mosque."

Lodi locals made their anger known:

"After midday prayers at the low-slung Lodi mosque, several worshipers vented their frustration over the federal investigation that has cast a shadow over their community. Parents complained that their children are taunted at school as "terrorists."

And this:

Mosque President Mohammed Shoaib, no relation to the shopkeeper of the same name, said Khan's testimony has "divided the community and harmed the Muslim community."

I don't find it too far-fetched that Zawahiri spent time in Lodi. What I do find far-fetched, is 19 people hijacking 4 airliners and flying three of them into as many buildings and killing thousands of people. I'm having trouble feeling bad for the Lodi Muslim community. They should look around and decide who's side they're on, then stand up and make it known for all to hear.

The LA Times article is here (reg req).

LODI TERROR BOMBSHELL

**WELCOME MICHELLE MALKIN READERS**
Umer and Hamid Hayat, both of Lodi, are on trial for having terrorist ties and lying to federal authorities. Their trial has been uneventful, that is, until yesterday.

An FBI informant testified that al-Qaida's #2 man, Ayman al-Zawahri, pictured to the left of OBL, once lived in Lodi and attended the local mosque in the late 1990s. From the Sacramento Bee:

Top al-Qaida figure lived in Lodi, witness says

By Denny Walsh -- Bee Staff Writer Published 2:07 pm PST Monday, March 13, 2006

An FBI informant testified Monday in Sacramento federal court that al-Qaida’s second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahri, lived in Lodi during parts of 1998 and 1999.

Naseem Khan, who is a critical prosecution witness in the trials of two Lodi men charged with having terrorist ties, testified he was living in Lodi in 1998 and 1999 and "every time I would go to the mosque (al-Zawahri) would be coming or going" from the mosque.

Khan said al-Zawahri, known to the FBI as Osama bin Laden’s personal physician and top adviser, "disappeared" sometime in 1999.

Khan recalled that he would speak to al-Zawahri when they encountered one another in passing but never had a conversation with him. "He would quietly come to the mosque and leave," Khan recalled.

He did not say that he saw al-Zawahri anywhere else in Lodi during that period.

Khan said he did not know who al-Zawahri was until he saw his picture with bin Laden on television news after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

***************

Here in Sacramento this story is all the buzz as Lodi is connected to the top figures in al-Qaida. More from KXTV CH. 10 here. Background on the case here.

As of Tuesday Morning--from the Sacramento Bee (reg req).

SUNDAY'S AFTERMATH

The midwest, Missouri and Illinois, got a big dose of bad weather last night. Luckily, Christi at Common Sense America, made it through unscathed, and she does some reporting from the area with pictures here.

**Speaking of blowing wind, apparently this wind has lost some of its force due to a severe beating. Right.

**Nothing but good weather and good times, according to John Ruberry of Marathon Pundit. It's Jamaica, man!! Part 3 in the series.

**Chris gets struck with a bad case of global warming down New Mexico way.

**She'll never be whacked; she's The Soprano's #1 fan. And if "the family" ever tried to make a move on her, Jack Bauer would show up and put an end to it right then and there.

**Another Hollywood legend is dead. I thought she deserved the Oscar for her performance in "Airport."

BASEBALL IN BARRY BIG TROUBLE

Eventually, the institution of baseball will pay a steep price for what it has allowed to take place within its confines. But, in the short run, they're going to add to their coffers as Bonds closes in on Ruth and Aaron's home run records.

Now that a new book has been written about Bonds, the steroid issue stinks even more. The press will dog Bonds, dog the Giants' coaches, and dog the players.

Like Pete Rose, Bonds owns this lie and will not let loose of it, even though it will cause damage to his team, the institution of baseball, and in the end, his family's legacy.

According to the latest book, Bonds decided to give steroids a try in 1998. And, according to his stats, I believe it. Looking at his stats, and by stats, I really mean, "home runs (HR)," it's difficult not to come away thinking something is wrong. The casino business has a term for it: "JDLR"--"just doesn't look right."

Look at the stats for Hank Aaron, then compare them to Barry Bonds'. Their careers are similar in many respects, too. Aaron was consistent in HRs over his long career; Bonds' was too. But, in 2000, at a point in his career when all players' production begins to sag, something happened to his stats. They were not the stats of a mere mortal giant; they were super-human, and since '00 they have never let off. Even in his last season, 2005, though Bonds only played in 14 games, his percentages for HRs never changed.

Numbers don't lie; you can't explain these numbers, unless you use the "S" word. And since Bonds isn't suing anyone for saying these things, isn't standing up and explaining how he posted these unbelievable numbers, I'll just let common sense take over.

I'm a cynic when it comes to this steroid thing, so I figure Bonds will break through Ruth's HR record quickly, then he'll march toward Aaron's record this season. The press will drive this quest for the home run record straight to the bank, second in line behind the owners. And, even though the record will forever be tainted, fans will flock to the stadiums, drink those $9 beers, watch on TV, buy the clothing, while baseball counts the money. Sucker money. Fans are stupid like that.

When I say "march toward Aaron's record," I don't mean alone. I think Bonds will have help: Watch Bonds' stats for "intentional walks."

After all, baseball thinks the fans are a bunch of suckers, anyway.

THE DEATHWATCH BEGINS

We've known for quite some time that the body was in poor shape, unable to thrive, and almost wheezing its way through the days. The end is nearing, and those who wish to visit one more time, better do so very soon.

WHERE HAVE THEY GONE?

Back in the days when the "studio system" ran Hollywood, the studios generated some great product. Specifically, tough guys. The type of leading man who commanded attention whenever he entered a scene is rarely found in the current crop of films produced today. Those days are long gone, as well as good film product. Are the two connected? I think so.

Kimberley Strassel, in a Wall Street journal piece, laments the lack of tough guys in today's films. But, she did find one who was worthy of a nomination. Read it here.

FLYING THE NOT-SO-FRIENDLY SKIES--updated

When the President hits the skies in Air Force One and secretly lands in a distant and dangerous locale to visit the troops, I think it's fantastic. And I know the troops' spirits are lifted; I know mine are.

Remember when he flew overnight, landed in Iraq, and had Thanksgiving dinner with the troops? Everyone, with the exception of the MSM, loved that one.

Yesterday he slid into Afghanistan unannounced and paid a visit to our fighting men and women--good stuff.

Secret missions by the President don't worry me that much, because they're secret. No one knows about them. Tomorrow, however, he travels to Pakistan, and it isn't secret. Today, in Pakistan, a terrorist set off a bomb that killed an American envoy, but the President says it will not stop him from making the trip.

Many in that region are willing to risk taking a shot at Air Force One, or any other plane he flies in, and there's only so much you can do with regards to security. This trip gives me a bad feeling; I don't like it.

UPDATE: The President is on the ground in Pakistan. So far, so good. Read this article about the President's trip and some of the security procedures they employ just to land in this country.

AND IN THIS CORNER....

The UAE port deal is something I've avoided until I get a better feel for the facts. Everything I've learned so far has come from bloggers, mainly because the MSM is doing its best to somehow cause Bush some damage with its reporting, instead of sticking to the facts. It's what the MSM does best.

This subject is so heated, politically, that even bloggers from the same side are taking shots at each other. The latest is Jack Kelly from Irish Pennants. In this post, he takes a swipe at Michelle Malkin, as well as others.

I'm not taking sides, yet, other than to say I agree that the issue should be looked at closely before deciding to go forth. The discussion is important and in the end I'm sure we'll get it right. I hope.
