WELCOME READERS FROM: Melanie Morgan, Andrea Shea KingWhen I went to bed last night I had a post already planned for this morning. Well, here it is 4 am and I'm changing my posting plans already. But how could you blame me after opening an email like the one below?
Mr. and Mrs. Media Matters, local Sacramento bloggers and friends of this blog, gave birth to a sweet, little baby boy a couple years ago by the name of Parker. Many of you remember the difficult time they went through during the pregnancy--we prayed a lot. But they persevered, are happy and everyone's doing just fine. God Bless Them. Here's their email:
"Hi Thirdwave Dave. Hope you are doing well. One of these days we need to meet in person. The Media Matters family would like that. We could thank you for your service in person. I am sending this to everyone I know.
During a routine ultrasound in my wife's 25th week of pregnancy, we found out that our son would be born with special needs. Before he was born he had up to five doctors and there was even talk of surgery in utero or immediately upon birth. Some doctors warned us he might never crawl, walk or talk. While we were unsure of what to expect, we never considered an abortion. That's just not who we are.
Well, 2 years later our son Parker is happy and energetic...and he just happens to have Cerebral Palsy. So far, many of the doctors appear to have been wrong. While he lags on some of his milestones and may have some unique challenges, for the most part his CP seems to be a moderate case. We are so blessed to have him in our lives.
I don't write this as a way of tooting our own horn. Instead, it is a way of introducing the personal connection I feel to Republican Vice Presidential candidate, Gov. Sarah Palin. In her acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, she spoke directly to me:
"And children with special needs inspire a special love.
To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters. I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House."
I had tears streaming down my cheek when she inspired me with those words. And they aren't just empty words. They are words she has lived by. She, too, has faced the same fears we did. Pre-natal testing revealed her son Trig would be born with Down Syndrome. But Governor Palin and her husband Todd are staunchly pro-life and they chose to allow their son to live. When he was born, Gov. Palin said/wrote:
"He's absolutely perfect...Many people will express sympathy, but you don't want or need that, because Trig will be a joy. You will have to trust me on this...Children are the most precious and promising ingredient in this mixed-up world you live in...Trig is no different, except he has one extra chromosome."
And now, facing a difficult situation, her daughter is choosing life as well. While her family may not be perfect (and neither is mine), they are living the perfect example of valuing the sanctity of life. And their pro-life testimony will speak to millions of Americans. It already has.
I believe their stance scares the Enemy. And there is much hype and hoopla hoping to drown out her testimony. She is being persecuted, in part because of her faith, her family, and her pro-life stance.
In the days and weeks ahead on the campaign trail, she is a target. The enemy will continue to try and tear her down and weaken her family and her message. My hope in this email is not to persuade you to vote for her and Sen. McCain (though that would be cool). Instead I want to ask you to pray for her and her family. She will need strength and support to survive the relentless attacks. I ask that when you finish reading this e-mail you spend 15 seconds praying for Governor Palin and her family. Let's get behind a living example of someone who cherishes God's creation of life, even when it is seemingly messy or imperfect.
Thanks for reading this. And, thanks, too, if you choose to pray. Feel free to share this email with others if you wish."
God bless,
Rich Seiber

**As Andrea explains through a video, there's much reason for HOPE in the future for Parker. A miracle.
(BTW, I sent this post to Gov. Palin and to her Alaska office)
