Memorial Day 2012

MEMORIAL DAY HISTORY

In Flanders Fields--John McCrae, 1915:

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Found this in my ConReCo email thread this morning:

"Today a flag was flown at the Capitol in honor of Marc Alan Lee, United States Navy SEAL, born on this day 34 years ago. We couldn't be more proud of our Debbie for raising up the best of American men, and we will never forget Marc's heroism.

"After a daylong trial and fewer than two hours considering the evidence, Navy Judge Cmdr. Tierny Carlos found Petty Officer 2nd Class Jonathan Keefe of Yorktown, Virginia, not guilty of dereliction of duty, a spokesman said."
