PRESIDENT BUSH FALLS BEHIND SCHEDULE

As you know, President Bush is a stickler for keeping to his schedule. This is especially true when he's flying on Air Force One. On his recent trip to China, Air Force One landed for refueling--on schedule--but when it took off again, it was behind schedule. I doubt the MSM ever reported on why Air Force One got behind schedule, so I'll let Blackfive do the reporting for them.

The speech Obama gave last night didn't impress me all that much. Even the best of speech-makers would be hard pressed to live up to the tremendous media hype.

All things considered, Obama did and said what was required. And no matter how impressed you were with the speech (Oprah), Obama's still an EMPTY SUIT.

On the other side of the aisle, McCain is alone on the republican ticket. This morning, however, we'll find out who he taps as his VP. Lot's of speculation flying around the media.

The semi-secret flight out of Alaska bound for Ohio is the most interesting, though. If it's Alaska, it's Palin. At this point, anything is better than Charlie Crist. For now, we wait.

THE OBAMA DELUSION

There were no surprises during the democrat convention this week and there were never going to be any. The MSM attempted to sell you on the idea that all kinds of political maneuvers by the Clinton campaign were on the horizon--just stay tuned! There were none. It was all too predictable. Clinton made a deal with Obama and she held to it right up to the clearly manipulated roll call vote. Trust me, Broadway has nothing on this group of political choreographers. And the fact that the MSM is in charge of this production should scare the hell out of you.

In his column this week, Jack Cashill brings it all into focus as he writes about the Obama campaign and the one man who understood what it's all about: Orwell. This, too, should scare the hell out of you:

"Although best known for his novels, 1984 and Animal Farm, George Orwell was a political essayist of the first order. Writing sixty years ago or more, he all but predicted what might be called “the Obama Delusion.”

This is, of course, a paraphrase of the title of Richard Dawkins’s bestseller, The God Delusion, God being a likely role model for the new Messiah.

Dawkins, in turn drew this title from that classic of soft-core Buddhism, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

Commentary: Farewell to an American hero

For the better part of 60 years, two old Army pilots who loved each other argued over many a meal and drink as to which of them was the second best pilot in the world.

The two shared the cockpits of old Beaver prop planes and Huey helicopters; they shared rooms in military hooches all over the world; they shared a love of practical and impractical jokes and they shared an undying love of flying and soldiers and the Army.

They also shared membership in a very small and revered fraternity of fewer than 105 men who are entitled to wear around their necks the light blue ribbon and gold pointed star that is the Medal of Honor, America’s highest decoration for heroism above and beyond the call of duty.

Their story was told in a book my buddy Lt. Gen. Hal Moore and I wrote 15 years ago titled "We Were Soldiers Once . . . and Young" and in the Mel Gibson movie, "We Were Soldiers," released in the spring of 2002. Too Tall and Old Snake were ably portrayed in the movie.

Their argument over which of them is the Best Pilot in the Whole World sadly came to an end this week when our friend and comrade-in-arms Maj. Ed (Too Tall to Fly) Freeman slipped the surly bonds of earth and headed off to Fiddler’s Green, where the souls of departed cavalrymen gather by dispensation of God Himself.

Too Tall Ed was 80 years old when he died in a hospital in Boise, Idaho, after long being ill with Parkinson’s disease. He turned down a full dress hero’s funeral in Arlington National Cemetery in favor of a hometown service and burial in the National Cemetery in Boise, close to the rivers he loved to fish and the mountains he flew through in his second career flying for the U.S. Forest Service.

A few days before the end, his old buddy Lt. Col. Bruce (Ancient Serpent 6) Crandall came to the hospital to say his goodbyes to Too Tall Ed, and to enjoy one last round of arguing with Ed over that question of which of them was the best pilot in the world.

In a fine display of the sort of gallows humor that's always helped men who know the horrors of war keep some of their sanity, Bruce told Ed that he intended to settle the question once and for all by borrowing a helicopter, sling-loading Ed’s coffin below it and then lowering it into the grave where Too Tall will rest — something that only the Best Pilot in the World could do. Something that only the best friend in the world could tell a dying man.

These two men received their Medals of Honor long after the deeds that earned them in the furious battles of the Ia Drang Valley in November of 1965 at the dawn of our long, bitter war in Vietnam. President George W. Bush presented Too Tall Ed with his medal in 2001 and hung the medal around Old Snake Crandall’s neck in 2007.

When their friends in the 1st Battalion, 7th U.S. Cavalry were surrounded and fighting for their lives near the Cambodian border and needed ammunition and water and helicopters to carry out the gravely wounded, Bruce and Ed flew their Huey helicopters, again and again, into a small clearing swept by North Vietnamese machine gun and rifle fire.

I rode into Landing Zone X-Ray sitting atop a case of hand grenades on one of Bruce Crandall’s missions after dark on November 14, 1965, wondering if one of those bullets might turn us all into a puff of greasy smoke. I rode out of X-Ray after the battle ended on November 16, again on Bruce’s helicopter.

In later years, he and Ed and I would joke about the love-hate relationship that I and the infantrymen had with the chopper pilots: Hated them for flying us into Hell and dumping us off; loved them for coming back to get us when it was time to leave.

Mostly we laughed ourselves silly as first Ed, then Bruce recounted tales of one escapade after another; of moonlight requisition raids against the U.S. Air Force for needed or merely desired goodies unavailable from the Army supply chain; of the time Bruce was caught trying to sling-load a 10 kilowatt generator off its pad on an airbase.

Now Too Tall Ed Freeman, a much larger than life-size hero at 6 feet 7 inches tall and a much better friend than we deserved, is gone, and we are left with too large a hole in our hearts and in our dwindling ranks.

Last year, Andrea Shea King had the honor of interviewing Joe Galloway, LTC Bruce Crandall and his lovely wife Arlene. Just days before, LTC Crandall had been awarded the MOH by President Bush at a White House ceremony. Galloway was in the Ia Drang Valley along with Too Tall Freeman and Snake Crandall during those hellish days in what was known as "The Valley of Death."

The following video tells their story and highlights the friendly argument between Freeman and Crandall as to who was the best helicopter pilot. I posted about last year's interview here.



During the worst of the battle at Ia Drang, LTC Hal Moore had to declare "Broken Arrow," which is as bad as it can get. In that situation, all available, on-station combat aircraft are then called in to assist against over-powering enemy forces.

Early in the battle, Landing Zone X-Ray was "HOT" and had to be ordered closed, but that didn't stop either Too Tall or Crandall from flying their Hueys in to re-supply the troops and ferry out the wounded--14 times. WND *ELECTION 2008* EXCLUSIVE COMMENTARY: ANDREA SHEA KING TAKES US TO SCHOOL ON "THE OBAMA NATION" AND ITS ATTACKERS

When Dr. Jerome Corsi's newest book THE OBAMA NATION hit the shelves recently, did you see what happened? If you didn't, don't feel bad because you weren't alone. In the opening passages of Andrea Shea King's WorldNetDaily article, she explains what took place, and why:

Socialist and community activist Saul Alinksy taught organizers to ridicule opponents when the arguments of their opponents could not be refuted by logic, evidence or argument. He advocated denying the truth or just plain lying. In Alinksy's world, the end always justified the means.

Alinsky's acolytes on the left have learned the lesson well. Because they dare not address the questions raised, they attack the one asking the questions.

Supporters of Barack Obama are in paroxysms over Jerome R. Corsi's best-seller "The Obama Nation," attacking the 304-page book and its author on minor details contained within its pages, while deliberately ignoring and obfuscating the larger points Corsi makes about Obama's questionable alliances, practices and qualifications for president.

If you understand Saul Alinsky's tactics, then you'll understand why Obama supporters immediately went to the airwaves to change the focus from the content of Corsi's book to that of Corsi's credibility, and the supposed "falsehoods" within the book.

If people like Bob Beckel really believed Corsi's book was full of lies and distortions, then he would've gladly pointed them out on national tv with the proper documentation. But he didn't. In fact, during his debate with Corsi on Fox and Friends, Beckel admitted he hadn't even read the book--see video. That should tell you something.

When it comes to doing interviews, Dr. Corsi is most generous with his time. But as one well-intentioned interviewer learned recently, when you fall for the Alinsky strategy, change focus from content to the attack controversy, Corsi will eventually draw the line.

Why? Because it's a waste of time--we all know what Media Matters and George Soros are all about. No news there. Don't be suckered--stay focused and let's keep Obama right where he belongs: on the south side of Chicago.

DOTTIE COLLINS, STAR PITCHER IN WOMEN'S BASEBALL, DIES AT 84

During WWII, as millions of our boys left for the war front, women on the home front had to do just about everything, including playing professional baseball. After all, entertainment was vital to the public's spirit during those tough years.

In 1943, the All American Girls Professional Baseball League was formed--Dottie was a superstar pitcher:

"She pitched underhand, sidearm and overhand; she threw curveballs, fastballs and changeups; and in the summer of 1948, she pitched until she was four months pregnant. She won more than 20 games in each of her first four seasons. She threw 17 shutouts and had a league-leading 293 strikeouts in 1945 for the Fort Wayne Daisies, when the women’s game resembled fast-pitch softball."

Sadly, after the AAGPBL folded, it was all but forgotten, and the girls lost contact with each other. That is, until their superstar got involved. Because of Dottie's efforts, the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown created its Women in Baseball exhibit.

Penny Marshall's movie, A League of Their Own, recounts the history of the league. It's one of my favorite movies and features some big names. The movie focuses mainly on Dottie and her sister, with Dottie being played by Geena Davis. Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks) had one of the funniest scenes and lines of the movie.

The movie ends with the former players and their families gathering for a reunion and dedication ceremony at Cooperstown. A very touching scene. RIP, Dottie:

WHEN COMMUNISM COMES TO TOWN

When the Russians invaded Georgia the other day, it reminded us of the days when communism held eastern Europe by the throat. Those days, I hope, aren't returning anytime soon. Putin made his message clear to all bordering nations: Russia is back in the game. Putin was also sending a message to the U.S. and NATO. Update from Powerline.

As a student of history, General George S. Patton, Jr understood and hated the Russians, never trusted them and made it clear that one day we'd have to deal with them. How right he was. In fact, at the close of WWII, since we already had the manpower and equipment in place, Patton thought we should finish the job and destroy Stalin's armies, thus preventing a future problem with communist expansion. However, Patton's superiors thought otherwise.

When the Berlin Wall came down and the Cold War ended, we all thought the USSR's communist threat was finally over, never to be repeated. How wrong we were.

Communism is a special brand of evil that delivers suffering and death on a scale that most could never understand. Compared to Stalin and Mao, Hitler was a novice. If you find the time, I suggest you read about communism as well as its younger and less developed sibling, socialism. Understanding history is everything. (video hat tip: Pitchpull)



Early on this day in 1961, the people of Berlin were sitting down to have breakfast. But to their horror, the menu had suddenly been changed. They were about to be force-fed a full and lifelong serving of communism, and there was nothing they could do about it. Outside of statements of protest, the world did very little. The suffering had begun:

TYSON ISLAMIC FOODS, INC., REPLACES AMERICAN HOLIDAY TO APPEASE MUSLIM WORKERS; PRAYER ROOMS ADDED AT PLANT

Tyson Foods has decided to remove a traditional American holiday, Labor Day, and replace it with a Muslim holiday. WorldNetDaily reports:

"To the Shelbyville Times-Gazette, Gary Mickelson, Tyson's media chief, said there is no new holiday, but at the union's request the company agreed to discontinue the Labor Day holiday and implement Eid al-Fitr."

Creeping Sharia, anyone? Can't you just see the promos for this new and diverse (paid) holiday?--Stock Up On Tyson Food Products For Your Annual Eid al-Fitr Day Picnics and BBQs!!

This move by Tyson Foods to replace a traditional American holiday with a Muslim holiday is nothing short of dangerous. We've taken another step towards the Islamification of America. How's the water temperature, Froggy?
