"RIEHL WORLD VIEW" OF THE GOP
Riehl's take on today's establishment GOP will give you an idea as to what we're up against. He's 100% right--they are not our friends. MY WARNING TO THE ESTABLISHMENT GOP
"Mr. Byrd’s absence could pose a challenge to Senate Democrats as they try to pass the financial overhaul bill and win other procedural battles in the week before the Independence Day recess. With the midterm elections on the horizon, Washington is polarized and Democrats will need every vote they can get." One way or another, they'll wheel him in for the vote. Developing...
"Dwight Armstrong, one of four young men who in 1970 bombed a building on the University of Wisconsin campus in Madison, killing one person and injuring several others — a political protest that, gone violently wrong, endures in the national memory as an act of domestic terrorism — died on June 20 in Madison. He was 58."
Since we're becoming more and more like Europe, I suppose we'll soon be buying our eggs, bread and other foods by weight instead of number. "For the first time, eggs and other products such as oranges and bread rolls will be sold by weight instead of by the number contained in a packet." Continue reading.
Many things have originated from the city of Chicago. It's a great city, and a beautiful one at that. Hell, Frank sang about it.
Chicago offers up great sports, great food, great entertainment, and political corruption so bad that even Paul Powell would hang his head in shame.
Names like Dion O'Banion, Bugs Moran, Hymie Weiss, Richard Daley, Al Capone and, of course, Barack Obama and his Marxist crime syndicate, have all made their way into the pages of Chicago history. (Obama's history is still being written.)
Ever hear of a Chicago Typewriter? 2122 North Clark Street? Both very much Chicago.
There's always The Loop, Michigan Avenue, Lake Shore Drive, Grant Park, the Wrigleys, and Hugh Hefner. All things Chicago.
Take a few steps outside Chicago proper and you're in Morton Grove, home to one of Chicago's highest rated political bloggers, John Ruberry, owner and publisher of Marathon Pundit. Ruberry's currently ranked at #47 in political blogs on the web. (John's just beginning to make Chicago history, so stay tuned. Happy 15th too!)
When it comes to history, Chicago's been one busy town. It even had the time to create it's own words. Yep, words.
As hard as Chicago works--"The city that works"--it still found time to create words that would be forever connected with the city. It's a busy city.
Chicago Magazine compiled a list of the top 40 words with Chicago origins. We use many of these words on a regular basis, but I doubt many would know the history of these 40. I didn't, and I'm from the area. Enjoy.
At approximately 4 a.m. (Korean Standard Time) on a rainy Sunday morning Democratic People's Republic of Korea Army (DPRK - North Korea) artillery and mortars open fire on Republic of Korea (ROK - South Korea) Army positions south of the 38th Parallel, the line then serving as the border between the two countries. The opening barrage is followed shortly by tank/infantry attacks at all points along the Parallel. At 11 a.m. North Korea announced a formal declaration of war and what is now known as "The Korean War" officially began. In this announcement North Korea claimed ROK forces on the Ongjin Peninsula attacked North Korea in the Haeju area (west) and their declaration of war was in response to this attack. This claim was bogus.
U.S. President Harry S. Truman was notified of the invasion and returned from his home in Independence, Missouri, to Washington, D.C., arriving in early afternoon. Meanwhile the U.N. Security Council passed a resolution calling for the immediate cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of North Korean forces to north of the 38th Parallel.
Here in the Sacramento area, certain business people are hoping this story has no legs at all. For those with concerns, sleeping soundly at night comes at a premium, if at all. The general public will read this story and think it's solely about loan sharking in the greater Sacramento area, but it goes way beyond that. The story itself is missing critical elements, lacks the obvious questions an article like this would raise, and people in the know spot these omissions from the get go.
I must admit I'm enjoying this article and looking forward to more front page, above-the-fold stories in the future.
Do you understand what just took place between Obama and General McChrystal? Do you have the slightest inkling as to what's happening to our nation politically, economically, culturally? Do you even care? If not, it might be because you were educated in the public school system. In fact, it could be said that much of what ails this once great nation is the result of the education our public school system has produced over the last four decades.
Big Government's Andrew J. Coulson takes a look at our education system, contrasting employment creation within the system and student test score performance over four decades. When it comes to student performance, you'll note the ROI is a fail. On the other hand, the NEA must be very pleased with the job they've done... for themselves. Coulson's presentation reminded me of a Churchill quote:
"However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results."
When military commanders butt heads with their civilian superiors, there's going to be trouble... for the military commander. This is especially true when the civilian superior is the president.
The most famous example would be in 1951 when Truman fired General MacArthur. The two men had "slightly" differing opinions on how the Korean war should be fought, and when MacArthur made it known, Truman fired him. The decision for Truman was easy, the political fallout was another thing, altogether. After all, MacArthur was a national hero, an institution. Truman survived, MacArthur did not.
On Wednesday, when General McChrystal goes before the president to explain his comments in a just released Rolling Stone article, the history of military-civilian clashes might be revisited. That is, with General McChrystal no longer being the top commander in Afghanistan.
I have read the article and can not see McChrystal leaving Washington with his job intact. But, then again, Washington is a different place these days and it's quite possible that Gibbs has a way to spin this so Obama still appears to be in charge.
Fundamentally transforming America is a full-time job, and the president doesn't need his military commanders stepping out line at this critical juncture. Bite me.
More good news for Harry Reid and his constituents: Nevada now leads the nation in unemployment, pushing Michigan out of the way and into the #2 slot. But it's not that big of a deal because Harry has a solution:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said the news highlights the need for Nevada to move away from its reliance on consumer spending and construction.
“This increase in our unemployment rate only emphasizes the need to diversify our state’s economy and create jobs,” Reid said in a statement. “Not every solution can come out of Washington but I am working every day to attract new businesses and industries to our state, including those that will put people to work by making Nevada the leader in developing clean energy.”
Move away from consumer spending, develop clean energy? You're kidding, right? The way I see it, Harry, Nevada has three things: Las Vegas, Reno, and tumbleweeds. Gambling, and everything that goes with it, is Nevada's economic engine. Without it, Nevada fails. You fail. Nevada is the Mecca of consumer spending, of vacations, having fun, getting away from it all--it's the big show.
Discretionary dollars, yen and euros, come to Nevada from all points on the globe just to be deposited in the vaults of casinos throughout your state. But not anymore. You, my Marxist friend, have screwed the pooch on that account, and the people of Nevada know it.
Harry Reid will be doing battle this November with Sharron Angle for Nevada's senate seat. Las Vegas will be the battleground. To look at Las Vegas today, you'd think a war has already been fought there. The city is an economic disaster, getting worse by the day and no end in sight. At this point, I'd say Reid's chances are comparable to that snowball in hell. Even so, Support Sharron Angle right up to election day!
INTERNET "KILL SWITCH" IS FOR YOUR PROTECTION... NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT HERE
Thanks to Lieberman and Collins, Obama could soon have an internet "kill switch" at his fingertips. Should you be concerned? If you're an idiot, no.
Government--Obama--control over the internet should give you pause. Article here.

From "pay czar" to the new "BP ATM czar," Kenneth Feinberg will be the face of the BP compensation program, deciding who gets how much and for how long. Soon Feinberg will be a household name, so you might as well take a look at his background now. Why am I not surprised that Feinberg used to work for The Swimmer? Feinberg also has a connection to the Zapruder Film. Right on Houston, left on Elm... BP is just going to love this guy. Kenneth Feinberg

FINDING OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATIONS ON THE MONTEREY PENINSULA
Thomas Kinkade is one of the most prolific, most collected painters of our time. He lives in the Placerville area of northern California but often travels to where he plans to put an area's beauty to canvas. The above painting by Kinkade is a street scene on Ocean Avenue in Carmel, California, one of the most beautiful spots on the planet. I guess they have nice jails too, because that's where Kinkade recently spent the night. Ouch.
It's FLAG DAY, so get Old Glory out for all the world to see. My new flag comes from the Second American Revolution site. You can purchase any number of styles and sizes. The price is right too. $20 for the one shown above. I recommend going over and becoming a member as well. I did, and it's very user friendly. Anyway, this flag signifies the Second American Revolution, which, btw, has started. If it started without you, it's never too late to join forces with those fighting for liberty and freedom. There's always room in the ranks for newcomers.
If you're not up to speed on the history of FLAG DAY, just click right here. And if you'd like to get a gander at all the flags we've flown over the many years this nation has been in existence, just click here.
If you read but one thing today, or this week, let the post at Atlas Shrugs be the one. We've known it all along but now it's about as clear as it can get. Stunning. Pam Geller's ATLAS SHRUGS
What's left of our democratic process will be exercised today in California. The big ticket races are the U.S. Senate and Governor.
The winners of these two races, on the republican side, will be the wrong people. Money wins here, not conservative principles. But we vote, anyway.
The real excitement will take place over the California state line in Nevada. At the close of business today, we will know who Harry Reid will be running against in November. And if the polls hold true, Sharron Angle will win this race.
An Angle win will force the RNC to come face-to-face with its worst nightmare: the Tea Party Movement, specifically the Tea Party Express. What will the establishment republicans do? Your guess is as good as mine.
If you followed sports from the 1960's on, you knew who John Wooden was. If you never followed sports at all, chances are you've heard of him. His life and successes as a basketball coach at UCLA went far beyond the court and well into his retirement. Wooden was a winner, a coach among coaches. A teacher. And not just in sports--in life.
Wooden had one losing season to his record. One. He knew the secret to success on the court, no doubt. But to Wooden, winning on the court began off the court--how you conducted yourself as a person was paramount, fundamental to everything. He was both a basketball coach and a life coach; he taught both very well.
A LOOK AT SHUTTLE DISCOVERY STS-131 YOU'VE PROBABLY NEVER SEEN
Preparing for a shuttle launch takes 6 weeks. But through the use of time-lapse video, you can watch as STS-131--Discovery--is prepped for launch, beginning with hangar assembly and ending with a Florida landing... in just under 4 minutes. (Tip of the hat to Joe Chez) GO FOR LAUNCH!! STS-131
McCAIN--ROMNEY PLAYDATE; EU COMING APART AT FINANCIAL SEAMS
JOHN McCAIN has called in a BIG RINO hired gun to help push JD Hayworth and his conservative forces back. Mitt Romney will be stumping for McCain today in Mesa. (Greta and Sean were unavailable.) No word on whether or not Dr. Juan Hernandez will be attending this speech, but I'm sure he's somewhere close by. After all, Hernandez was McCain's liaison to the Hispanic community during the "so called" '08 Republican presidential campaign.
MORE GOOD NEWScoming out of Europe: Hungary is the next domino to fall in the great progressive experiment called the EU. When I say good news, I mean it. This is progressivism on parade, and it's falling apart. Of course, we'll suffer for it at some point but that's the way it has to be. This economic robbery can no longer be papered-over by the media. The sooner this is exposed, the better.
Prior to the market open this morning, the DOW, along with all major indicators, were diving for the bottom of the tank. (9am pst Dow down -222.)Fiscal woes in Europe (Hungary) have the markets in an uproar, with investors running for cover. Meanwhile, the job numbers for this week were posted--bad, but that isn't stopping Obama and Biden from giving a speech at a factory this morning, touting how the stimulus and jobs bills are kicking in with great success; hiring is taking place across the board in industry. OUR economic problems are finally over--we're on the road to recovery!! Yes!! One day these two criminals will share a jail cell.
California is our EU. I live here; I'm living it, personally. This state is on life support, approaching economic calamity and death. I say death because people will be dying as a result of cutbacks in services to the least powerful and influential. It's nearing "every man for himself" in some sectors. On the other hand, UNIONS--the real owners of this once great state--are doing just fine and all future prospects are looking up--Blue Sky, Baby!!
Again, the same goes for California as the EU: the sooner this progressive experiment is exposed, the better. Here in California, the same goes for the media as well: they can't hide the facts any longer. The game is over on progressive policies; it will be painful for a lot of folks but it's something we must go through in order to take back our state and nation.
NOISYROOM WILL HAVE more economic news listed in the financial links post. MELANIE MORGAN has a variety of links--Chuck D. from the OC vs. Babs Boxer and much more.
OBAMA, FTC, AND NATIONALIZED JOURNALISM; JAMES O'KEEFE TAKES JOB AS CENSUS WORKER--ANOTHER SCANDAL BREWING
If you haven't read Mark Tapscott's piece about Obama and the FTC, you'd better do so NOW. Then pass it around.
"Release of the Federal Trade Commission's working paper on "reinventing journalism" makes it clear that there is no more time for diplomacy about this issue: President Obama is determined to federalize the news industry just as he has banking, autos, and health care.
"Everybody who wants independent journalism had better wake up to these three facts about what is going:"--continue reading.

*Two reasons why Obama MUST nationalize journalism: Andrew Brietbart, James O'Keefe. Here Breitbart praises ABC, then exposes them. If Obama ever gets his way, Breitbart will be back to delivering pizzas, and O'Keefe will actually be a pimp. Wow!
