TONIGHT--ELIZABETH LETCHWORTH JOINS ANDREA TO DISCUSS HARRY REID'S SENATE RULES CHANGE--9 PM ET

This week the Honorable Elizabeth Letchworth, owner-founder of GradeGov.com, will be stopping by the Andrea Shea King Show a day early. Why? Because she wants to alert you to a move Sen Harry Reid plans on making this Wednesday regarding senate rules. Rules that have been in place for 200 years.

Letchworth, a 26 year veteran of the senate, lays out the whole democrat plan in her column at
The Daily Caller. Tonight she'll explain why the dems have cooked-up this plan and why it's important for it to be stopped. After you've listened to her analysis, you can watch the action on the senate floor come Wednesday, the opening day of the 112th congress.

Letchworth will no doubt urge you to use
GradeGov.com to communicate with your senators. Here's the beauty of GradeGov's ability to reach them: the email addresses at GradeGov ARE NOT the ones the members of congress have on their government websites--house.gov, senate.gov. Instead, these addresses are their personal email contacts and, when you email them, they will GET IT. It's the technological version of stopping by their district office to talk with them in person.

Many individuals and organizations have a complete listing of email addresses for congress, but those contacts require you to first fill out a long list of items--personal info--before you get to send your email. Then your email ends up on some congressional server where a staffer might look at it. Might. In most cases, you must be a constituent of that member of congress before they'll accept your communication. This is NOT the case when you use GradeGov. And did I mention GradeGov's free? Just register and you're off and running.

So if you're an individual and just want to send one email to your member of congress, use GradeGov. If you're an organization with a lengthy list of followers with an important issue, by all means take advantage of GradeGov's ability to get inside congress to your member's personal computer email program. And while you're at GradeGov, grade your member of congress too! It makes all the difference in the world. Congress loves hearing from you.

Tonight--Elizabeth Letchworth--THE ANDREA SHEA KING SHOW--9 PM ET. We have at least an hour with Elizabeth, so we'll probably cover other issues as well. Be sure to tune in. (USA NEWS reports on Reid's power grab.)

LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE: REID VS ANGLE DEBATE

With polling data showing Harry Reid tied or slightly trailing Sharron Angle, one thing is clear: Reid is on the ropes. Tonight, to be broadcast live from the PBS studios in Las Vegas, the two will face-off in their only scheduled debate. Advantage--Angle.

News coverage from the Review-Journal and The Sun.

In other debate news, Jim Hoft posts results from McClung-Grijalva and O'Donnell-Coons. In the Delaware debate, O'Donnell spilled Marxist blood on the floor.

HARRY REID'S LAKE TAHOE--"THE PLAN" TO SAVE IT FROM ECONOMIC DESTRUCTION

Whenever I get the chance to point out that Nevada's economy is going down the progressive drain, I relish the opportunity.

Lake Tahoe, like Las Vegas and Reno, is suffering through our ongoing economic freefall. But, according to some, there's good news on the horizon, because a study suggests that Tahoe needs to shift away from gambling--the economic engine of Tahoe--to a more eco-friendly economy.

These folks refer to this as "eco or geotourism." In other words, a lot of yoga festivals with music. This is the plan to save the Lake Tahoe region. Can't you just hear the cash registers ringing?

"If the Tahoe Basin economy must shift – as a recently unveiled study suggests – from relying on gamblers to appealing to environmentally conscious tourists, events such as the Wanderlust Yoga & Music Festival are its future." --continue reading.

Here's my plan: On November 2nd, go to your polling station and vote for Sharron Angle. Then, go down ticket and vote out every last one of these progressive democrats and weak, rino republicans, and then, and only then, will Nevada have a fighting chance at survival.

RENO'S HOT AIR BALLOON RACES LOSING SPONSERS; NEVADA'S ECONOMIC SITUATION CONTINUES DOWNWARD SLIDE

The largest free hot air balloon festival in the United States is held in Reno, Nevada each year. This year, however, the festival has more balloon pilots than sponsors, sending the city scrambling to find more sponsors in order to keep the event airborne.

The economic downturn
in Nevada is taking its toll on the balloon festival, just as it's taken its toll on Reno's largest annual community event,
Hot August Nights. From the Reno Gazette:

"With the loss of about $35,000 in major sponsorship money, the Great Reno Balloon Race is pushing for more, but less expensive, corporate sponsorships.

"The popular September event lost the $35,000 with the defection of three major sponsors. The commitment of each exceeded $10,000, event organizers said."

Apparently, people are still taking Obama's admonishment seriously and staying away from cities like Las Vegas and Reno. Although Obama didn't mention Reno by name, it goes without saying that a corporation isn't going to cancel its convention in Vegas, move it to Reno and not expect blow back from the White House. And to make matters worse, Harry Reid stood by without muttering a word in defense of his state.

In November, Nevada voters will be looking closely at their ballots, especially the U.S. Senate race between Harry Reid and Sharron Angle. My money's on Angle, and I'll be taking full odds.

WAYNE NEWTON DESTROYS OBAMA; SUPPORTS REID

On Tuesday, Wayne Newton spent some time with Neil Cavuto. Newton talked about how bad business is in Las Vegas and who's responsible for making it worse. Of course, I speak of your president--Obama. Newton didn't pull any punches when speaking about your president. However, he did make a big point of supporting Harry Reid. A very odd position to be in. Great interview, especially Newton's parting analysis of your president.

FRANK LUNTZ REPORTS FROM LAS VEGAS; NEWS NOT GOOD FOR REID

Friday's Hannity show produced a very important exchange, giving us a look at the current political climate in Nevada. Tucker Carlson was filling in for Hannity, and his guest was Frank Luntz who was doing the guest shot from Las Vegas. The topic: Harry Reid, Obama and the mid-term elections.

THE ROAD TO ECONOMIC HELL BEGINS IN NEVADA; POLITICAL HELL SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 2ND

What do you call a state with the highest unemployment rate, highest foreclosure rate and, percentage-wise, one of the worst budgetary messes in the nation? Nevada.

"Seven out, line away," the stickman said.

Politically, in Nevada, the name Reid is synonymous with Mudd. Just ask Harry's son, Rory, who's reduced the use of the family name in his bid for Nevada's governorship.
Rory 2010! Good luck with that.

Come November 2nd, Rory and his pappy might find themselves on a father-son outing. Out of politics, that is.

I have some friends with elderly parents living in Reno. They visit them at least once a month, sometimes two or three times. On their return, I require a Reno status report. Each time it's worse, and the latest was more of the same but with one additional item that flew under most economic radar screens.

Hot August Nights, the biggest annual Reno draw, is slowly beginning to leave town. HAN began 24 years ago and draws hundreds of thousands (800,000) of people to the city for a week-long party. It's an economic cash cow, but it's drying up. Locals are being told that the producers are moving the concert-car convention to other cities because too many people are signing up for the competition. Not enough room in Reno? BS. Locals know what the deal is, and if you look at the HAN website, you'll find the truth buried in one of their FAQ sections explaining the move. It boils down to protecting the "economic viability" of HAN. In other words: Reno is dying a slow, painful economic death and HAN is moving on to greener pastures. South Lake Tahoe and Long Beach, California will be reaping the influx of tourist dollars as HAN begins partial openings in those cities. A five year contract has already been signed with Long Beach. This is a huge blow to Reno; Harry and son will be feeling it in November, too--Chilly November Nights.

Many businesses in Nevada have closed, about to close or going through various forms of reorganization. Some famous, some not so famous. One of the more famous cases--historic as well--is the Cal Neva Resort located at Tahoe's North Shore. (North Shore is just down the road from Reno.) Because of its history, Cal Neva's failure makes for an interesting read, mainly because of its former owner: Frank Sinatra. Back in the '60s, Frank, Dean and Sammy filled the place to overflowing. It was the place to be... and to be seen. Except, of course, in the case of Sam Giancana. In '62, Marilyn Monroe spent her final weekend out at the Cal Neva. Days later she was found dead in Los Angeles. (As a side bar, I bet Burt Boyar could tell a few stories about the good ol' days at the North Shore with Sammy. Whenever I think of Sammy, I think of Burt.)

Months ago, however, Cal Neva finally fell victim to the current economic realities of doing business in Nevada. Business that dated back to the '20s. Even though it was some months ago, people won't forget the historic significance of Cal Neva's demise as they enter the polling booth; it won't be lost on the Reids, either.

Staying in the vein of gambling, let's move east to Massachusetts where those elected to misrun the state's business have come up with the solution of solutions to plug their massive budget gaps:
gaming expansion. Hey, it worked great for California. There isn't enough room here on blogger to explain just how bad this decision is, so I won't bother. Just enjoy the ride to economic and social Hell, Massachusetts.

Turning around and heading back west, the fine folks running the city of Maywood, California have also come up with a solution to solve their econ probs:
fire everyone. This includes the police dept. Their plan is to "contract out" all city services, thus becoming a "contract city." Police coverage will be contracted through the county, and other services will be contracted to nearby cities. How creative. Why not open a casino? Idiots. With this contract option, one question came to mind: what if a city decides to follow Maywood but doesn't have a nearby police force that's able to take the contract? What then? Maybe this is where Obama's grand plan begins to creep in.

As you go about celebrating this weekend,
take time to consider our nation's founding, its documents and what this nation means to you and to millions worldwide. And don't forget about those who wear our nation's uniform, either. They're about the only friends we've got.

If you find yourself hanging around the house on Sunday,
TCM is running Yankee Doodle Dandy at 5:30 PST. One of the best patriotic movies ever produced. "My mother thanks you; my father thanks you; my sister thanks you; and I thank you."

Frances Langford stars in this movie. I posted about her passing
here. She was a doll, and a true American patriot too.

WHAT WOULD WM. F. BUCKLEY SAY TO HARRY REID?

More good news for Harry Reid and his constituents: Nevada now leads the nation in unemployment, pushing Michigan out of the way and into the #2 slot. But it's not that big of a deal because Harry has a solution:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said the news highlights the need for Nevada to move away from its reliance on consumer spending and construction.

“This increase in our unemployment rate only emphasizes the need to diversify our state’s economy and create jobs,” Reid said in a statement. “Not every solution can come out of Washington but I am working every day to attract new businesses and industries to our state, including those that will put people to work by making Nevada the leader in developing clean energy.”

Move away from consumer spending, develop clean energy? You're kidding, right? The way I see it, Harry, Nevada has three things: Las Vegas, Reno, and tumbleweeds. Gambling, and everything that goes with it, is Nevada's economic engine. Without it, Nevada fails. You fail. Nevada is the Mecca of consumer spending, of vacations, having fun, getting away from it all--it's the big show.

Discretionary dollars, yen and euros, come to Nevada from all points on the globe just to be deposited in the vaults of casinos throughout your state. But not anymore. You, my Marxist friend, have screwed the pooch on that account, and the people of Nevada know it.

And what would William F. Buckley's reply to Harry Reid be? Simple:

"I won't insult your intelligence by suggesting that you really believe what you just said."

Support Sharron Angle for U.S. Senate.

AS LAS VEGAS GOES, SO GOES HARRY REID

Harry Reid will be doing battle this November with Sharron Angle for Nevada's senate seat. Las Vegas will be the battleground. To look at Las Vegas today, you'd think a war has already been fought there. The city is an economic disaster, getting worse by the day and no end in sight. At this point, I'd say Reid's chances are comparable to that snowball in hell. Even so, Support Sharron Angle right up to election day!

CALIFORNIA-NEVADA PRIMARIES

What's left of our democratic process will be exercised today in California. The big ticket races are the U.S. Senate and Governor.

The winners of these two races, on the republican side, will be the wrong people. Money wins here, not conservative principles. But we vote, anyway.

The real excitement will take place over the California state line in Nevada. At the close of business today, we will know who Harry Reid will be running against in November. And if the polls hold true, Sharron Angle will win this race.

An Angle win will force the RNC to come face-to-face with its worst nightmare: the Tea Party Movement, specifically the
Tea Party Express. What will the establishment republicans do? Your guess is as good as mine.

Now, go vote.

TAHOE RESORT GOING OFF CLIFF; REID NOT FAR BEHIND--updated

When the president of the United States advises big business to stay clear of resort areas such as Las Vegas for their conventions, big business takes that to mean places like Reno and Lake Tahoe as well. The result? Big business in these convention towns begin to fail, and fail big. With the overall national economy in peril, tourism is down across-the-board. And convention business, long being the life blood of these areas, becomes even more vital to the survival to these resort areas. Today another resort's future just got a little more bleak, as did the future of many working Nevadans.

The latest collapse comes to the north shore of Lake Tahoe: The Ritz-Carlton's Highlands resort, a premier resort and major employer in the north shore area, has filed default papers with the Bank of America in Placer county, which means foreclosure is close at hand. This news places further economic burdens on an already beleaguered resort area. From the Sacramento Bee:

"The new Ritz-Carlton luxury hotel at Lake Tahoe has gone into default, the latest sign of trouble for the lake economy and one of its top developers.

The default notice is the first step toward possible foreclosure. It was filed against the
Northstar-area hotel March 31, about a month after its developer, East West Resort Development of Avon, Colo., put nearly $1 billion worth of Northstar real estate development into bankruptcy reorganization."

Alongside Obama is Nevada senator Harry Reid--a potty trained lap-dog for Obama's economic policies--who has done little to nothing to bolster his state's economic future. As a result, Reid will continue skiing uphill into the senatorial elections, but probably not at the Highland's Resort in Tahoe.

Tourism and convention business is a big slice of the revenue Nevada takes in to keep the state afloat. But with Reid's lack of leadership in promoting his own state and policies favorable to it, Nevada is experiencing the brutal facts of economic reality. And soon the people of Nevada will be inviting Reid to gorge himself at an all-you-can-eat buffet, featuring a heapin' helpin' of political reality.

Note to Searchlight, Nevada-- your home town socialist is headed your way for an extended stay. Please welcome him home with open arms. It's time for a change, and the people of Nevada know it. Harry Reid knows it too. Since Harry Reid won't fight for you, consider putting Sharron Angle in the ring.

NOISYROOM for more financial news.

UPDATE: Since I've visited the north and south shores of Lake Tahoe and Reno many times, I always think of the area as Nevada. The state line runs right thru the center of the lake. The Ritz resort is on the California side of the lake, however, policies from Nevada affect the entire Tahoe resort region. As Reno goes, so goes Lake Tahoe, so to speak. And many of the workers in these resorts commute from Nevada because of prohibitive living costs associated with the Tahoe area.

I contacted the Ritz this morning and discussed the situation. A spokesperson said the financial problems with the property owner will not affect the operation of the hotel resort. The owner is now in negotiations with the bank to secure funding to bring it in line with current obligations.

When I asked if the resort would continue to operate in the event the owner in fact goes into foreclosure, the reply was that someone else would step in, buy the resort and it would continue to operate as usual. Rather optimistic, I'd say. But, the property is located in one of the most breath-taking areas on the planet. If you've never had the pleasure of visiting the Tahoe area, put it on your list of things to do before you die.

Here's a few pics I took from on top of the mountain at Tahoe.

"ANDREA SHEA KING SHOW" EMBEDS WITH TEA PARTY EXPRESS III

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 8, 2010

ANDREA SHEA KING JOINS TEA PARTY EXPRESS III

FROM SEARCHLIGHT, NV TO WASHINGTON, D. C.

MARCH 27 - APRIL 15

The Tea Party Express is pleased to announce that conservative leader Andrea Shea King will be joining the Tea Party Express III: Just Vote Them Out national tour.

"I am delighted to be part of this historic national tour, and look forward to meeting and writing about the good people of America from Searchlight, Nevada all the way to "the scene of the crime," Washington DC. Join us along the way as we make this journey one for the history books!" - Andrea Shea King

The Tea Party Express III: Just Vote Them Out Tour kicks off March 27th with the "Showdown in Searchlight" - a mega-sized tea party rally in Senate Marjority Leader Harry Reid's hometown of Searchlight, NV (population: 700). Joining Ms. King at the rally will be Gov. Sarah Palin, Joe The Plumber, Saturday Night Live's Victoria Jackson, nationally syndicated radio host, Roger Hedgecock, conservative commentator and columnist, Andrew Breitbart, and many others.

Andrea Shea King has increasingly become one of the most relevant voices in the conservative movement. Besides the radio shows which have gained her such a loyal following, she is also a columnist for numerous conservative publications, and publishes her own blog. Most importantly, Andrea is a citizen-activist first. She was there in support of the first round of tea parties in 2009. She joined up with Tea Party Express II when it concluded it's national tour in Orlando, Florida.

And now Andrea Shea King will cross the nation with Tea Party Express III speaking at rallies, and reporting her experiences, and relaying the words and voices of countless Americans at these rallies, to her radio and print audiences.

"We are truly honored to have Andrea joining us for the entire tour - from the March 27th 'Showdown in Searchlight' kickoff to the grand finale 'Tax Day Tea Party' in Washington D.C. on April 15th. Andrea Shea King has earned tremendous respect from many within the conservative community and tea party movement because she takes real action as a citizen-patriot," said Levi Russell, Communications Director for the Tea Party Express.
