LUCKY DAWG NEWS HACKED--AGAIN

Today I received a disturbing email from our good friend, Chris, at Lucky Dawg News.

In it, Chris says he's shutting down Lucky Dawg News because he's been hacked 3 times this month, and this time he was unable to repair it. He lost everything. He's frustrated and he says it isn't fun anymore, so he's throwing in the towel.

I can only imagine the frustration Chris is experiencing. His site was packed with great info, pics, and videos, most of which were directed at supporting our great nation, especially its fighting men and women. To not have this important site, Lucky Dawg News, in action, in the fight, will be a huge loss to the effort.

I hope that after a few days Chris will reconsider his decision, climb back on that horse, and begin anew.

Besides, to not have "The Dawg" on station, well, it just wouldn't be right. And I know everyone will agree with me on that point.

Chris, you know my number and email. Don't hesitate.

PARENTING AND THE LAW

I know I did a post the other day about school (Betsy Newmark) but when I saw this little article in the paper, I couldn't resist. It appears that someone is getting the message that attending school, and actually finishing, is very important. And, they've gone to the source of the problem: The parents.

Now, if they could apply this strategy to the parents of kids who are in school, but disrupting it, we'd be making progress.

Here's the entire article from the Sacramento Bee:

73 charged with failing to make kids go to school.

Seventy three arrest warrants were served Wednesday in Sacramento County on parents who fail to have their children attend school, the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office reported.

The annual truancy sweep charged the parents with contributing to the delinquency of a minor for failing to obey compulsory school attendance laws.

Out of the 73 warrants, 36 parents were taken into custody by various law enforcement agencies at their homes or at work, and the others promised to appear in court at a later date. Nine others were taken into custody on a variety of other charges.

Have you heard of anything like this in your area?

THE THOMAS KLOCEK AFFAIR

John Ruberry has the "Reinstate Thomas Klocek at DePaul" petition at his site. Their goal is 2000 signatures; they now have just under 1800. I know we can get 2000 signatures in no time flat, and with a little help from all of you, we can blow by 2000 by the end of the week.

Klocek was screwed by DePaul for "offending" muslim students. I urge you to sign the petition now--it only takes a couple seconds. Pass it on!!

Background link here, here, and here.

MICHAEL YON REPORTS

I received an update from Michael Yon that I thought would be of interest. In it, he tells us about the current situation regarding embedded reporters. I was surprised at what he had to say:

Greetings:

Pajamas Media recently reported that there are only 9 embedded reporters in
Iraq. Many are blaming this on the media, and while I can never be called
an apologist for mainstream media, I can say with certainty that the United
States military is censoring.

It remains unclear if this is a general policy, though there are recent inquiries to the office of
the Secretary of Defense. I await response. Or, perhaps, the
censorship is merely the policy of LTC Barry Johnson who is
responsible for operations involving embeds. Barry Johnson is said to be the
most quoted man in Iraq . I've learned to trust nothing he
says. I do know for a fact that Johnson has been untruthful with the
media. If Johnson calls me on this, I'll take the time to prove it.

While sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, sisters, brothers
and friends, fight and die in Iraq and Afghanistan, the
military apparently is preventing journalists from telling the
story. They attempt to deflect accusations of censorship by allowing in
just enough reporters to appear transparent.

I'll post updates on the website as the situation unfolds.

The "left" will say censorship is happening because Bush and Rummy don't want Americans to know Iraq is a disaster; The "right" will say it's happening because the MSM can't be trusted.

Could be a little of both, that is, if it's even true. But Yon says he has proof and I have no reason to doubt him.

ANOTHER REASON TO SHOP AT 7-11

It looks like 7-11 has seen the light. I'm not sure how this will affect the price of gas in the near term, because Chavez will probably cut back on oil shipments to the U.S., but I don't care.

Sometimes, sacrifices must be made.

Malkin has the story about 7-11 pulling the plug on Citgo.

POST KATRINA: A NEW BEGINNING

Betsy Newmark has posted about the school system in New Orleans. It appears that it took a natural disaster to bring about real school reform, and the NEA isn't going to like it nor can they do anything about it. And I doubt you will hear much about this in the MSM, that is, for now.

Because of Katrina, New Orleans now has the nation's highest percentage of Charter Schools at 70%. Prior to Katrina, the school system was in sad shape, "abysmal," as Newmark puts it. Now that Charter Schools are the RULE and not the exception, the two systems will be judged for their effectiveness in educating its students, and I'm fairly certain the NEA will not be enjoying the comparison.

The inevitable future comparisons of the two systems could very well be the beginning of the end for the NEA and its stranglehold on our schools.

The NEA is just like our Congress: Their #1 priory is keeping their jobs, holding political power, and getting a better deal, even though they're doing a lousy job. The welfare of the students is somewhere on the list but I'm not sure where.

Newmark is a teacher so she knows what she's talking about. Read her post and the linked article. As is stands, now, the schools and the kids of New Orleans have a fighting chance.

THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE

Each day that passes, Father Time claims hundreds from the Greatest Generation. Last week, another from that generation was taken from us. But in Dorothy Stratton's case, Father Time had to wait 107 years to do it.

In 1933, Dorothy Stratton was a professor and the Dean of Women at Purdue University. Then, when the time came, like many others in her generation, she went on to serve her country when it needed her most:

"Ms. Stratton, who was born in Brookfield, Mo., in 1899, served as dean of women until 1942, when she became the creator and first director of the Coast Guard Women’s Reserve after being commissioned earlier that year as a senior lieutenant in the Navy. At the time, the function of the reserve force was to free up men in the Coast Guard for service in the war."

"In 1946, Ms. Stratton became the first director of personnel at the International Monetary Fund. She went on to serve as executive director of the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A."

Thanks for your service, Captain Dorothy Stratton. RIP.

25th reunion in November 1967. More about Dorothy Stratton on her 100th birthday here.

THEY'RE HISTORY, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

The military has decided that it's time for the F-14 Tomcat to taxi over to history's hanger. Today, at Oceana Naval Air Station, the F-14 made its ceremonial final flight. The Tomcat was made famous by the movie "Top Gun," and it was everything the movie portrayed it to be.

Just like other great aircraft of our past, the Tomcat is being shuttled to aviation museums around the country so future generations will be able to get a look at one of most lethal warbirds in aviation history.

When you think about the F-14 Tomcat, you think, "Top Gun." And because of that movie, you will never forget this aircraft. There's a man who helped make that movie, and he died while filming it; we shouldn't forget about him, either. His name is Art Scholl.

Art Scholl was probably the greatest stunt pilot who ever lived. Scholl did many movies, TV shows, hundreds of commercials, and even earned a PhD in Aviation Management. Flying was his business and his life.

I had the pleasure of seeing Scholl several times at airshows. The first time was while on leave from the Army, July 1976. I was skydiving in Kankakee, Illinois, and we flew to the DuPage County Airshow near Chicago. Scholl performed with many others to our delight. Bob Hoover and his Aerocommander comes to mind.

Scholl seemed to be everywhere, too. Just after returning to Ft. Ord from my leave, I was in Pope Valley, Ca., skydiving for the weekend. Pope is in the Napa Valley and has a population of 500 or so, if that. Early Monday morning, we were preparing to leave and people at the airstrip were saying Art Scholl would be there that day. They were filming a tv movie at the airstrip, "Amelia Earhart," and they would be using our dropzone and hanger in the movie. As we were leaving, many cars from Earhart's period were arriving to the lodge parking lot. 1930s, I think. And, biplanes began to land as well. Amazing stuff for a young man of 20. But, because of a pesky contract I had signed with the military, I had to leave.

I didn't get to see Scholl that day, but everytime I see the movie it gives me a good feeling to know he filmed it in the very air that I was skydiving in just the day before.

On September 16th, 1985, at around 5:30 pm pst, over the Pacific Ocean near Carlsbad, Ca.,while filming background shots for "Top Gun," Scholl put his Aerotec Pitts "Special" S-2A into a flat spin. These spinning shots were used in the background during closeups of the stars in the F-14's cockpit.

At around 3000 feet, Scholl radioed, "I've got a problem here." Then, at 1500 feet, he said, "I've really got a problem." Those were his last known words. He was never found. It's thought that the cameras mounted on the plane altered the "weight and balance envelope," therefore making it impossible to recover from a flatspin.

One of Scholl's trademarks was always flying with his dog, "Aileron," and a friend of mine, a retired Navy Captain, told me that Scholl had him in the cockpit that day.

So, when you see the movie, "Top Gun," don't just think of the F-14 Tomcat, think of Art Scholl, too. And if you sit through the entire ending credits, you will notice that the movie is dedicated to the memory of Art Scholl.

Art Scholl, 1931-1985.

ATLANTIS "GO" FOR RE-ENTRY

***UPDATE: 3:21 AM PST--TV coverage of the landing was great. It was still dark in Florida as Atlantis approached KSC. When the shuttle turned on final approach, NASA switched to the cockpit cam and we were able to enjoy the same view as the pilot and commander. The landing was picture perfect. If you missed the landing, here's the final minute. (WaPo)

SST 115 has been given clearance to land on Thursday morning at 6:21 am EST. On orbit 186, the crew will be making re-entry on this landing track:

Again, NASA is sticking with its policy of not bringing the shuttle back home over populated areas. So, unless you're in Central America or on a cruise ship in the gulf, you won't be able to see the re-entry in the dark, early morning sky. If the first landing opportunity is "waved off," the shuttle's next try will be on orbit 187 (landing track).

In the meantime, you can view the shuttle's location live as it orbits the earth waiting for the green light tomorrow morning.

Mark and Andrea get to watch both liftoff and landing from the comfort of their homes. Somehow, that doesn't seem fair.

ROYAL AIR FORCE MOVER AND SHAKER with update

The C-17 Globemaster makes Buzz Patterson's C-141 Starlifter look like a toy. The C-141 has been a workhorse for many years. However, the C-17 can move both heaven and earth in one trip!! Read the specs.

********

Now wasn't that fun? I received these pics in an email from my good buddy in Arizonia, Vic Pomel. All the pics are of the scale model C-17. (Click to enlarge)

The four builders are shown in the lower left image above. Colin Straus, the
owner, is at the nose of the aircraft.
This 1/9th scale radio-controlled
C-17 model was built in the United Kingdom. To date it has about 20 flights.

It was built as the centerpiece of a 15 program television series produced in
the U.K. for the Home and Leisure satellite TV channel. Built with the aid of
three friends, it took one year to build and is
powered with 4 Jetcat P-120 turbines with a total thrust of 108 lbs.

The models weighs over 250 lbs fuelled, and carries 12.5 liters (3.3 US
gallons) of 95% kerosene and 5% turbine oil fuel. Other details include 5 Futaba
PCM receivers, 16 battery packs (93 cells), 20 Futaba servos, on board air
compressor, electro/pneumatic retracts, etc. Wingspan is 20 feet 8 inches, and
the top of the fin is 74 inches (6 feet 2 inches) above the ground. Takeoff
weight is 264 lbs.

The rear cargo doors open and they drop an r/c
jeep on a pallet, as well as 2 free-fall r/c parachutists. The model also has
smoke systems both of the inboard turbines, and uses 2.4 GHz data link to
provide real-time data to a laptop computer on the ground while in flight, this
data includes airspeed, turbine RPM, EGT, fuel consumption, etc. It is covered
in fiberglass and epoxy resin. Built mainly from balsa and ply, with many glass
and carbon fiber moldings to reduce weight.

This C-17 Globemaster III is one of the largest
jet models in the world today! Complete with retractable landing gear and
pneumatically operated flaps.

All I can say: Too much time...way too much money.

Thanks, Vic!!

WHISTLING PAST THE GRAVEYARD

The more I thought about this picture of the Taliban funeral and our policy of not bombing a cemetery, the more I wanted to bang my head on the wall as well as some high-ranking heads in Washington.

I thought we were at war. Does anyone in our government understand just what that means? I'm beginning to wonder. The only building, ship, or location that should be off-limits, is a hospital. Even that policy has its limits.

Since Mosques are on the "do not touch" list, they've been used throughout the war zone as supply depots, hiding places, and "operational planning" HQs. Hell, mosques are used for that here in our own neighborhoods.

For us to give 190 terrorists a pass simply because they're in a cemetery, is madness. Now cemeteries will become "open air" sanctuaries that will be used against us in this fight for our survival. UBL must be getting a good laugh out of this one.

Instead of fighting a war, we're putting more effort into showing the world what humane people we are in the United States, and as long as we continue this ad campaign, we will lose.

War is about killing the enemy, and if the enemy happens to be congregated in a cemetery, too bad. It's where these animals belong, anyway.

ANDREA AND MARK WILL INTERVIEW LTC BUZZ PATTERSON

(This post will remain on top; new content below)
On Sunday and Monday, millions will be watching PATH TO 9-11 on ABC, and it will be the hot topic for quite some time.

Everyone will have an opinion regarding its accuracy; the "left" will label it as a work of pure fiction. I think we know better.

LTC Buzz Patterson knows the accuracy of this drama. He was an aide to President Clinton and was an eyewitness on more than one occasion when Clinton had a chance to bag UBL. Here's a snippet from a World Net Daily interview:

"I was there with Clinton and (National Security Adviser Sandy) Berger and watched the missed opportunities occur," Patterson declared

LTC Patterson's book, "Dereliction of Duty" was used as a source for PATH TO 9-11:

In an interview with WND, retired Air Force Lt. Col. Robert "Buzz" Patterson said producer and writer Cyrus Nowrasteh called him the morning of Sept. 1, explaining he had used Patterson's book "Dereliction of Duty" as a source for the drama.

Andrea Shea-King and Mark Vance will be interviewing LTC Patterson this Wednesday and the following Sunday night. The Clintons were not happy when Patterson wrote "Dereliction of Duty" and they won't be happy about this interview, either.

"War Crimes: The Left's Campaign to Eliminate the Military and Lose the War on Terror" is Patterson's newest book.

Go to Andrea and Mark's blog, Radio Patriots, for all the details. You won't want to miss this one.

***TO ALL MY READERS (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE): Please make mention of this interview on your blogs. We want a big audience for both interviews and lots of folks in the chat room. Thanks.

STONE CONSIDERS 9-11 MOVIE--updated

Pat Curley, who blogs at Brainster and Screw Loose Change, was interviewed last night on a radio show out of Calgary. As expected, Pat was brilliant as he debunked many, well, all, of the conspiracy theories surrounding 9-11. I tried to call the show to ask a question but I was greeted with a solid busy signal. It's a popular topic.

Today, I noticed an article at Drudge about Oliver Stone and his interest in doing a film about the 9-11 conspiracy.

"There is a great story in a movie, a conspiracy by a group of people in the American administration who have an agenda and who used 9/11 to further that agenda," he told journalists in Russia.

If Stone moves on this project, he should hire Pat as a consultant. Don't be surprised.

UPDATES....

Hugo Chavez offers his opinion on the conspiracy too.

Pat Curley gets his first DEATH THREAT. Pat's arrived!!

And here's the not-so-smart guy who did it.

CANADIAN JOURNALIST SPEAKS OUT

The United States isn't the only nation with a bunch of leftwing whackjobs criticizing its military at a time of war. Canada has its Little Dickie Turbans and Cindy Sheehans as well.

Recently, a Canadian journalist grew tired of it and decided to say something in support of her military.

"Christine St-Pierre, a veteran Ottawa correspondent for French-language public broadcaster Radio-Canada, wrote an open letter to Canada's 2,300 troops telling them to ignore mounting criticism of the mission."

"We owe you all our respect and our unfailing support . . . dear soldiers, your tears are not in vain, your tears are brave," St-Pierre wrote in the letter, which Montreal's La Presse newspaper published on Thursday.
Radio-Canada suspended her for breaching internal regulations"

Suffice it to say, Andrea and Mark wouldn't make it to lunchtime at Radio-Canada.

MAJOR METZGER: WHEREABOUTS UNKNOWN

There is no news on Major Metzger, and as bleak as that sounds, I find it somewhat reassuring. At least it leads me to believe she wasn't the victim of a random crime of violence and left by the roadside to be found.

With that possibility eliminated from my thinking, I did a little research on the "bride kidnapping" tradition that Kyrgyzstan is noted for. In fact, it seems to have been invented in the region. From my reading, this country is stuck in the "wild west" stages of development. A dangerous place. The practice and history of bride kidnapping is described in this article; it further outlines the evolution and methods used today:

"Today, the tradition has been corrupted. Bride kidnapping often occurs
when a man, 18 to 25 years old, either of his own decision, or acting our of
peer pressure, decides it is time to take a wife. If he has someone in mind, he
and perhaps three or four male friends get into a car, and go in search of the
girl/woman. Alcohol is often involved. If he has no one in mind, the men may set
off to find any girl/woman, searching the streets of their village or a nearby
village until they find a women they deem attractive. At this point, when they
have either found the woman in question or found any other woman, they might
pull the car up to her and ‘kidnap’ her, dragging her by force, or by tricking
her, into the vehicle."
After reading the entire article, BK seems to be a tradition within the country, between villages, and not involving someone who is foreign to the country. A lot of times both parties know each other. So, I'm ruling out BK.

What I'm not ruling out is kidnapping for ransom. This practice is rampant in Mexico, Central and South America. Someone, a tourist, is kidnapped, the abductors wait for a period of time until the families are frantic, then they place a call and offer up a price for the safe return of the loved one. Often times, most probably, local officials are involved, at least on the payoff. And, the officials play it so it appears they were responsible for solving the crime.

Our relationship with Kyrgyzstan is tenuous, at best; they know the U.S. needs them more they they need us. They are robbing us for the use of Manas Air Base, which we use to support our forces in Afghanistan. So, if one of their rogue, splinter groups decided to grab one of ours, I'm sure they wouldn't get in a twist over it.

Of course, everything I've said here is pure speculation. However, I'm doing my best to stay positive about a safe return for Major Metzger. She's a strong woman, a good officer, and I know she can handle any situation she finds herself in.

Like John at OP-FOR said, "pray, and pray hard."

AIR FORCE MAJOR MISSING--updated

Air Force Major Jill Metzger went missing in Kyrgyzstan's capital city of Bishkek. Metzger was last seen while at a shopping mall on Sept 5th. An extensive search is under way by the Air Force and local authorities.

"A 22-member task force of U.S. special agents and their support crew are working closely with local authorities using every available means to find information concerning her whereabouts."

Metzger is attached to the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing at Manas Air Base. While checking around for this story, I found an older story about her. She's a marathoner.

No matter how you look at it, this doesn't look good. Not a friendly place. Pray for her.

HUMP DAY

**I watched Katie Couric's debut last night. Not impressed, and a bit surprised. Pam, at Blogmeister USA, posted about Couric's opening using a Tom Shales article, so I have only a couple comments to add.

Couric has started a "contest" where you get to send in your suggestion for her nightly sign-off. You know, like Cronkite used to do: "And that's the way it is...now let's get out of Viet Nam."

I can see this sort of thing being done at "Today" but this is supposed to be "THE CBS EVENING NEWS." Apparently Couric hasn't put much thought into this new job of hers. If you missed Katie's first night, the Shales article will bring you up to speed.

**Two of our blogger friends have moms who are in the hospital: Kitty Litter and Marathon Pundit. Make sure you drop them a note in the comments section.

**If you sent prayers of support, I thank you. This family has received an outpouring of good wishes from all over the 'net. So, if you haven't gone over there yet, do so now. If you already have, do it again. Follow the linkage. Thanks for the email, Rachelle.

**Now for some fun. Keep your cursor on his nose for as long as you can.

**You've had your fun, now read this very short post from Paul. Then think.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

The other day I posted about the passing of Glenn Ford, but it wasn't long after that I had a strange feeling about it--something wasn't right. I read several obits and they were all pretty much the same. The LA Times, however, dedicated two pages to Ford's obit. Since Ford was a movie star and lived in LA, I guess the Times would have the most info available about him.

You'd think so, but you'd be wrong. Well, they had the info, they just weren't reporting it.

In my post, I mentioned that Ford retired as a Captain in the Naval Reserves. But I didn't get that information from any obit I read, especially the LA Times'. I ran across it in an online bio of Ford. I checked and double checked this info. It was true, Ford retired as a Captain, but you find scant mention of his military service in the obit. In fact, they didn't even bother to mention Ford went on to retire. The highest rank they note was Commander in the Navy.

Ford actually joined the service in WWII and served until his retirement in 1977. Not worthy of a mention, though.

What the Times did mention, and I think this has something to do with downplaying Ford's military service, are his views on the Viet Nam war. A subject that still festers in newsrooms across this country. The Times thought it important enough to quote Ford a couple times but couldn't come close to describing Ford's great service to his Nation.

Read the LA Times' obit and decide for yourself.

In Ford's era, many stars joined the service to fight for their country. Some even stayed until retirement; Jimmy Stewart comes to mind. Ford served out of a sense of duty to country and never made a big deal about it. Neither did the LA Times.

NEWSMAX noticed something was wrong with Ford's obit and decided to set the record straight--to fill in where the MSM failed to do its job. In this piece, NEWSMAX highlights Ford's service to country and describes it accurately and proudly. Good for them.

RIP, Glenn Ford. A great American Patriot. Semper Fi.

A MOM'S WORK IS NEVER DONE

Carla Meyer Lois, AKA, SOME SOLDIER'S MOM, will be interviewed on The Andrea Shea-King Show this Sunday night, Sept 3rd. A note about last Friday's CPR--Kitty Meyers, of Kitty Litter, was interviewed by Andrea and Mark. Kitty was fantastic throughout. I was impressed. And, she received a surprise on-air call from Pat Curley, of Brainster's blog. I'm sure Kitty will be back on the air soon. Next time, though, I hope she talks about Her Royal "C." Being from "C" country, I bet Kitty has an opinion or two she'd like to share with us.

Finally, I would like to thank Andrea Shea-King and Mark Vance for including so many bloggers into their show format, and for setting aside Fridays for blogger interviews. Both of you are doing a great service to our nation by getting the word out to as many people as you can, 6 days-a-week. And by including bloggers, you raise blogging to another level.

Don't forget: Andrea and Mark now blog at Radio Patriots. Stop in and see them.

"BLOOD AND ROSES"

November 22nd, 1963, a date that will start many discussions, even arguments. But this post isn't about assassination theories or anything like that. It's about the passage of time closing out yet another era in American history.
